16 May 2026: The Latest on the Reunion
I have no idea whether anyone is reading the reunion announcements, but in case you are...
"Hey Barry, this is Gary Johnson... I'm not coming to the Reunion"
There was a lot more to his message. Gary has been a constant supporter of past reunions, but after realizing that only 5 people have indicated that they might come, and after talking to several of the past attendees, he has decided that the expense of flying to the Reunion from Texas did not make sense for he and Karen to see half a dozen people. Although he didn't ask me, I would have been a no-show, at 83 I just don't want the hassle.
So, now what? This is still a chance to meet with old friends, particularly if you still live in Southern California. I have left the previous messages about the Reunion below. There is also info about the Reunion on Classmates.com. I know Gary and Karen were looking forward to the Reunion and are definitly sad to drop out. Perhaps if you attend, you can give a toast to absent friends.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////
OK class members, I got a call from Gary Johnson...
For the 60th Reunion, Gary went through a lot of trouble to track people down to let them know the when-where. There were a lot of people he couldn't find. So, if you want to know about any future get-togethers, we give you three options"
1. Send your name and contact info to:
2. Give Gary a call: 281-326 0870 with your info. He's nice to talk to.
3. You can send the information to me via the contact link below, and I will forward.
What kind of information you ask... contact information. Email address is fine but you can add a phone number if you want it from the horse's mouth. Or, if you don't do email or have a phone, you can give us an address. I know people worry about giving out info, so pick what works for you.
Speaking of Gary and the 2026 Reunion...
Has it really been only 65 years since graduating high school? How time flies when you’re having fun.
Speaking of fun, we are having a reunion party on June 6, 2026 at our old standby Long Beach Airport Marriott. Starting around 6 pm and going as long as 80+ year old folks can go.
The party is open to all classmates from Mayfair High School 1961 to 1964 graduating classes.
No charge, no open bar, order from menu at your discretion.
If you plan on staying at the hotel overnight, make your senior reservations early.
4700 Airport Plaza Drive, Long Beach, California 90815
866-994-6596
If you plan on attending, please contact Gary Johnson at 281-382-3608 or email with your contact data, so if anything changes you can be notified.
Also, we are looking into having a computer online, with dial in capability, for a continuous web meeting during the event. Be sure to submit your internet address even if you can’t make it. Details to follow.
Gary
And now for something entirely different:
We didn't get many photos of the "60th Reunion", but what we got are accessible through the link to the left.
If anyone has not figured it out... the "We remember them" link to the left is a list of classmates who are no longer with us. If the list is incomplete it's because no one told me they are no longer with us. If you know of anyone from the class of '61 who is not on the list but should be, send me the information. There is also a place on each memorial page for comments. If you have any memories you would like included, send them.
The mayfair61 web site was down for about a month. That's because I don't get feedback and assumed no one was visiting, so I let it die. Gary called and disabused me of this. "I know of three people who periodically visit". What could I do? It's back up. I have paid for three years so it will be up until at least 2027. If no one contacts me with a comment like... "What a great job you are doing." or "You are soooo clever, I don't know how you do it." or some other heart felt praise, 2027 may be the end. After all like you I'm getting old, I'm forgetting how to do this stuff.
