the Monsoons to a hard fought 12-7 opening Suburban League

Called on late in the third period with his team behind 7-6, Ferguson saved the game with one spectacular play, a 52-yard scoring touchdown pass to end Frank Stock. Stock, gathered in the pass and outraced half the Duarte team to insure the victory. Earlier Mayfair led 6-0 as quarterback Bill Thurman completed a 15-yard scoring pass to halfback Dave Totten in the first period DUARTE scored its only touchdown on a 10-yard romp by left halfback Darrel Mead in the first quarter. Mead gained more than half the yardage in the 70-yard Duarte TD drive. After the second Mayfair score, the game became a ground gaining contest between the fleet Mead and Mayfair bruiser Ron Frongillo, a 220-pound fullback who gained more than 100 yards during the night.
