Bob Ferguson
Died July 31, 1980 Anaheim Calif. Traffic Accident
"I also remember Bob Ferguson. I thought he was very good looking
and he was "bad". I liked Curtis but I was always afraid of
Bob. I am talking about being in the seventh grade now. I was so
miserably little and he loved to tease me about it. When we received our
annuals I had bunches of people sign it and were sitting outside at the
lunch tables. Bob walked up and asked to sign my book. I was almost
struck dumb. I could barely look at him as I gave him my book. He took it
and drew a little Pigmie with a bone in its hair and rib bones showing
and underneath he wrote "Ah, Linda" and then signed it
"Love, Bob Ferguson". I was absolutely mortified. I didn't
give my book to anyone else to sign and even brought it home and hid it
from my family. I still have that book and when I am surprised by what
goes on in the world or what my granddaughters are worrying about in
their social lives, or one the many other major setbacks in life, I get
that book out and show my grandkids Bob's signature. It is difficult
for my grandchildren to believe that I was once a tiny, shy little girl
and not always a matriarch in the family. Everyone laughs, including me
and I tell them the story of how shy and insecure I was about my size at
that time. I also tell them that two years later I loved being short and
curvy. Life was good. Poor Bob. I will bet anything that he had no idea
that I worshipped him from afar or that his artwork could make me smile
45 years later." Your comments are welcome. |
